What: Gather with signs and noisemakers outside the federal Liberal Party Pacific caucus fundraising dinner to loudly resist Carney’s “Canada Strong” agenda: fast-tracking dangerous, wasteful and misguided fossil fuel and military expansion at the public expense, including another, recently announced publicly-funded $43 billion, billion/litre per day dirty bitumen pipeline from the Alberta tar sands to the Salish Sea!

BACKGROUNDER:
In the 2025 federal election many voters supported Liberal Party candidates because they wanted to resist Donald Trump and his pro-billionaire, anti-climate, imperialist agenda.
Instead, the Carney government is aping Trump’s approach, tearing up Canada’s environmental laws, bulldozing Indigenous rights, flouting international law and spending billions to subsidize fossil fuel companies while protecting massive export loopholes allowing Canadian arms manufacturers to profit from the on-going genocide in Gaza.
While the country is burning, disproportionately affecting land-based indigenous communities, Carney is funding new fossil fuel pipelines with public resources, without our say, in the name of the “national interest”
People are struggling to make ends meet, Carney is giving handouts to his billionaire buddies.
This is not what Canadians voted for.
On Thurs July 30th, the BC Liberal caucus is having a fundraiser for their pro-pipeline, pro-billionaire agenda. Join us to cause a ruckus and show Carney we are ready to push back!
More context:
-Canada is battling one of its worst wildfire seasons on record, with 919 active fires burning nation-wide and over 3 million hectares of forests lost to fires this year.
-Eastern Canada just experienced a record-shattering heatwave that scientists say was “virtually impossible” without fossil fuel driven climate change.
-Last year the International Court of Justice unanimously ruled that wealthy countries must rapidly reduce fossil fuel extraction and consumption. Funding new pipelines is a climate crime.
-Carney’s proposal for a publicly funded oilsands pipeline from Alberta to Delta, with greatly increased tanker traffic through the Salish Sea, putting the endangered Southern resident orcas further at risk of extirpation from local watts, is just part of his extremist agenda to subsidize fossil fuel expansion.
-Carney is also proposing to subsidize new pipelines and other infrastructure for the expansion of fracked gas exports from BC. Methane gas shipped as LNG is as dangerous for our climate as coal.
-Most countries are now accelerating their transitions to solar and wind power (which is now less expensive and more reliable than fossil fuels like oil and gas).
-Carney’s pipeline agenda also means attacking indigenous rights and violating Canada’s legal obligations under the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
-This blatant disregard for international law on climate and Indigenous peoples mirrors Carney’s failure to end Canadian support for the ongoing genocide in Gaza by imposing meaningful sanctions and closing arms loopholes.
– Whether it’s funnelling money to fossil fuel companies or cutting public services to fund the war machine, the through-line is clear: Carney is willing to sell out Canadians, Indigenous peoples and a safe climate future, to line the pockets of his billionaire buddies.
